Recovery

As local authorities and experts of digital security measurements and threats warn that working from home makes businesses more valuable for cyber-attacks, other criminals leagues are also taking advantage of peoples changed behavioral pattern.

– We do unfortunately see that criminals tend to take advantage of situations such as these, Managing Director Dorthe Kisum at Flextrack says.

Flextrack have for nearly three decades been working and developing recovery products, to track, trace and recover objects should something be reported stolen. Thieves often tend to strike when the chances of getting caught is less likely such as public holidays, weekends and unforeseen events.

– In these times where many people have to self-isolate for weeks, many are not using cars or using them very little. This makes it more convenient for thieves to steal the vehicles and it also reduces the chances of getting caught as there are less people walking the streets, says Kisum.

Several cars stolen in the last couple of days

We have experienced a rise in the number of car thefts in the recent weeks, Kisum says. Our hope is that people will check their cars daily and keep a look out for anything unusual.

– Keeping a daily routine makes it harder for the thieves to steal your valuables. Check your car and equipment on a daily basis, but make sure to check on different times each day.

In addition, there are a lot of things you can do to protect your car and equipment from being stolen.

1) lock your car even when the car is parked at home or in a garage

2)  don’t keep the car running while not being inside the vehicle

3)  choose parking with lighting and in visible, not remote areas

4)  protect your keys especially if it is a key-less car.

5) be close enough to see your car when you lock it with a key-less, to make sure you hear and see that the car is indeed locked, and that nothing interfered with the signal

6)  store key-less car keys in a special wallet which blocks signals. If you don’t have a wallet, you can store the keys in the fridge (+5C – +10C). Don’t forget the spare key

With the advancement of technology, thieves have progressed from mechanical intrusion into cars to interception of signals. Nowadays, most cars are equipped with a convenient but easy to break keyless-go system. An experienced car thief with a small piece of equipment can steal a car in seconds, and seen from the outside, such a drive-off does not look like a crime at all.

To protect your car from the potential risk of theft, a special keyless-go key wallet can be used to store keys at home. The wallet blocks signals transmitted by this smart key.

– Another tactic used by today’s car thieves is to scan the keys through a door or a wall. Therefore, precautions need to be made in order to make it as hard as possible for them to get what they are after. Fortunately, there are many things you can do yourself that does not have to cost much or take a lot of time, Kisum says.
